Privacy in forensic evaluation work.

Treatment and forensic work are different

Ingleside Health provides forensic psychiatric review and opinion work. A forensic evaluation is not ongoing treatment. The limits of confidentiality, the purpose of the evaluation, and who may receive the final work product are addressed in the engagement and authorization documents.

Authorization comes first

For VA matters, the veteran must authorize the review and any disclosure to an attorney, accredited claims agent, or other representative. Records are not accepted until the intake path is opened.

Secure records process

Records should be uploaded only through the secure process provided after authorization and payment setup. Email and public website forms should not be used to send medical records.

Uses and disclosures

Information may be used to review records, prepare summaries, request clarification, complete clinician review, prepare a final opinion when supportable, process payment, and maintain records required for the matter. Disclosures are limited by the signed authorization and applicable law.

Questions
